Product description

The Roselli Opening knife round tip, silver ferrule is a specialized hunting knife designed for opening and processing game safely and with greater control. Its distinctive rounded blade tip allows the knife to follow the inside of the animal while helping reduce the risk of accidentally puncturing internal organs or damaging the meat.

The 85 mm blade provides excellent control when opening game and working in confined areas. Unlike a conventional pointed hunting knife, the rounded tip is designed specifically for this stage of game processing, making it a practical addition to a hunter’s field dressing kit.

The blade is made from carbon steel with a hardness of around 60 HRC. Carbon steel provides excellent cutting performance and good edge retention, making it well suited to controlled cutting when processing game.

The handle is crafted from stained Finnish curly birch and treated with linseed oil for a comfortable and secure grip, even when wet. A 925 sterling silver ferrule adds a refined handcrafted detail that complements the natural grain of the curly birch and gives this version of the Opening knife its distinctive premium character.

Each Opening knife round tip, silver ferrule is crafted, sharpened and finished by hand in Harmoinen, Finland. It comes with a handcrafted sheath made from dark, vegetable-tanned Finnish leather.

FAQs

What is an opening knife used for?

An opening knife is designed specifically for opening game during field dressing. Its rounded tip allows the blade to cut through the hide and tissue while helping reduce the risk of accidentally puncturing internal organs or damaging the meat.

Why does the Opening knife have a rounded tip?

The rounded tip is designed to make opening game safer and more controlled. Unlike a pointed blade, it can be guided along the inside of the animal with less risk of puncturing organs or other tissue that should remain intact.

What is the difference between an Opening knife and a regular hunting knife?

A regular hunting knife is designed for a wider range of tasks such as skinning, cutting and processing game. The Opening knife has a specialized rounded tip designed specifically for opening the animal safely. Many hunters therefore use the two knives for different stages of field dressing.

Why is carbon steel used for the Opening knife?

Carbon steel offers excellent cutting performance and good edge retention. The Opening knife has a hardness of around 60 HRC, providing a sharp, dependable cutting edge for controlled work when processing game.

What makes the silver ferrule version special?

The silver ferrule version combines the specialized rounded carbon steel blade with a 925 sterling silver ferrule and a stained Finnish curly birch handle. The silver adds a refined handcrafted detail while retaining the functional design and purpose of the Opening knife.
